Leopard Directory.app – bad stuff, bad stuff

Today I had the pleasure of trying out Mac OS X Leopard Server’s awesome new application, Directory. All I wanted to do is setup some shared addresses so everyone in my company can have access to it. Simple. Address Book used to allow this, but it’s been replaced with Directory. I’ve had nothing but bad luck, inconsistent errors, and conclusively, a shotty system.

This is supposed to just work, out of the box, ‘the easiest server yet’, they claim. Well, they’re either wrong, lying, or both! This is not the easiest setup. This is not the simplest server. If you’re considering switching or upgrading to Leopard Server, be sure you test it out for about 6 years, because it just doesn’t work well, at all. I’d be better off using a dedicated machine (without Server installed) for file sharing, development site hosting, and other shared resources. It’s been bad, and every week Leopard Server does something else stupid, just to keep me informed that it doesn’t work right.

I’m a diehard Mac fan, but Leopard Server, you stink. You stink bad.
