I’ve always noticed TextMate behaves a bit sluggishly when a project contains a good amount of remote file references. I’d much prefer to use TextMate, but end up resorting to the vim editor. I got nothing against vim, by any means, but when modifying many files for one project, it can become cumbersome.

I’ve tried using MacFusion, and it works pretty well. The reason I tried out MacFusion is so that I can open files in TextMate (using the mate command) right from the terminal. But again, TextMate still behaves very sluggishly.
I just noticed a post on the TextMate Blog about Magnetk’s ExpanDrive that claims to run much more smoothly than MacFusion and other options. I’m downloading a copy now, and I’ll be posting back with some comments and reviews on this software. I hope it works well. At a $29 intro price, it would be well worth the investment.
Let’s see how it goes!

Ok, so after the file transfer crashed adium for the 10th time, I’ve decided to go back to iChat. I forgot how nice iChat really is, especially since it responds to text the same way as other mac apps.

Just opened a huge Smarty template folder. This one’s got at least 150 files in it. TextMate let me edit with no sweat, again as if it were a group of local file references.
I’m digging this ExpanDrive so far… I’m gonna continue using the trial version, and I’ll post back with any other praise or complaints. At this rate, though, I’ll be shooting Magnetk twenty-nine bucks!

Hung up a bit. Only had about 10 files over SSH… not quite sure. I’ll be looking for more issues as I go.
