Please do not autoplay video/media files when I load your website!

Alright, I’ve had about enough of this stuff. Lots of websites incorporate video. Whether they be promotional or advertisements, videos should never be automatically played when the website loads. Just because you think people may want to watch your videos doesn’t mean that they want your videos to automatically start playing.

What the hell is a blog, anyway!?

A client recently requested a quote for a new website. The site required at least five different sections, where the site owner would have the ability to administer the site. The proposal requester mentioned that maybe a blog would be sufficient for the first section. He also suggested that maybe a blog would be sufficient [...]

Microsoft killed our definition of FTP

When dealing with so many clients as I have over the years, and lots of them being primarily Windows users, I’ve come to a point where I can’t stand hearing incorrect definitions of FTP. It seems like Microsoft has incorrectly impressed the idea of FTP in so many of its users’ heads. Many clients and [...]

A hole in the fence will always be a hole in the fence

I live near the Asheville Mall. In fact, my yard borders that fence that goes around the back of the mall, you know, where the road goes around Sears and on back to the parking decks and the food court and stuff.

    Ubercart using NaviGate/Authorize.net payment gateway

I had some trouble getting Ubercart’s Authorize.net module working with a different gateway named NaviGate, provided by MerchantPlus. The NaviGate gateway supposedly works just like an Authorize.net gateway, with the same variable names and very similar API, so we’d hoped we wouldn’t run into many issues. But there was one that caused a decent amount [...]

When Bastian calls out the empress’ new name in The Neverending Story

UPDATE: The answer is “Moon Child”. See @Uzetaab’s comment. I watched The Neverending Story last night. I remembered it being a great movie when I was a kid. It’s actually still a decent movie, much better than Labyrinth! We’ve been joking about how you can’t understand what the hell Bastian actually ends up naming the [...]

Google wants to give you $10 million

If you have a great idea, you need to tell Google. They’re wanting to give $10 million to help fund great ideas. Learn more about this at CNN. Of course, I’ve had plenty of great ideas that would help benefit all of humanity, but by now I’ve forgotten them all! Too bad for me!

Remove CalDav subscribed calendar from iCal, calendar won’t delete

I used to use Leopard Server for my office. We all had accounts on there, and we used iCal and CalDav so we could all subscribe to a few common calendars. It never worked perfectly. But now we don’t use Leopard Server anymore. It just didn’t really help us out very much.

    I want a 4-string tenor guitar

I recently saw a strange guitar in a local music shop, Blue Ridge Music in Asheville. This guitar had only four strings on it, and it was built to only have four strings. I picked that thing up. It’s called a tenor guitar. I’d never heard of such a thing. A little research revealed that [...]
