Microsoft’s new ad campaigns, I’m a PC, Life Without Walls, says nothing

I’m a diehard Mac user. I’m not an anti-windows type of guy; I’ve got nothing against Microsoft or Windows or anything else they provide. The reasons I use Mac are mostly because I prefer the operating system and the applications.

I’m not big on Apple’s gadgets either; I’d much rather they focused more on their machines and software than iPods and iPhones and other little gadgets.

With that said, I’ve been watching these Mac commercials for, what, a few years now? You know the ones with the Mac guy and the PC guy, where the Mac guy is all cool and hipsterish and the PC guy is some chubby glasses nerd.

It only took Microsoft a few years to retaliate in their ad campaigns, and really, it’s about damn time! But this new campaign, with 100 people saying “I’m a PC” doesn’t really say anything to me. It seems like it’s just a retaliation effort, but no solid message gets across to me. Am I just missing something?

What they are trying to get across, is that Windows is akin to life without walls (firewalls). Best I can figure, all those people in those ads also don’t use a firewall as a mode of digital protection.

Or, maybe, they are just showing all the different people that use PC’s (personal computers), of which, they could be mac users as well, because unless I’ve been mistaken all these years, Apple computers are also designed to be used for personal use, thereby making them personal computers as well.

If you read the Wiki for PC, the very first sentence sums it up quite well:

“A personal computer (PC) is any computer whose original sales price, size, and capabilities make it useful for individuals, and which is intended to be operated directly by an end user, with no intervening computer operator.”

So basically, I think Windows is simply showing us that a variety of human beings use personal computers in their personal life, as well as for business (as denoted by all those assholes showing us their office).
