    Error (ERROR_PLATFORM_FAILURE)

I migrated a Menalto Gallery 2 site, and I got this error right away. Error (ERROR_PLATFORM_FAILURE) It’s a permissions issue. The fix: steve$ chmod -R 777 g2data Give your g2data folder (could be another name; this is the folder that holds your gallery 2 data) write permissions, and the error should disappear.

Microsoft’s new ad campaigns, I’m a PC, Life Without Walls, says nothing

I’m a diehard Mac user. I’m not an anti-windows type of guy; I’ve got nothing against Microsoft or Windows or anything else they provide. The reasons I use Mac are mostly because I prefer the operating system and the applications. I’m not big on Apple’s gadgets either; I’d much rather they focused more on their [...]

Wii streaming audio / Wii music player

I had a little trouble finding a decent streaming music player for the Nintendo Wii. At first I tried Pandora, since it’s free and pretty smart. But it wanted too much memory, and the Opera browser on the Wii Internet Channel didn’t like that very much. It gave Pandora a big no.

People doubt how quickly we can find information

I remember being a kid in public school, I don’t know, elementary or middle school, and we had to go to the library to do little research projects. Back and forth to and from the card catalog, into the reference section, and through the nonfiction aisles of books. All we had to do was find [...]

Fabio got hit in the face with a goose!

Did anyone hear about this? Fabio was riding a roller coaster at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, Virginia. He was in the front seat of Apollo’s Chariot. A goose just happened to be flying by, and it hit Fabio right in the face! I feel bad for old Fabio, but the whole concept is kinda funny. You [...]

Safari Javascript Bookmark to Resize Browser Window

When coding for the front end of a website, I frequently resize my browser window to simulate different screen resolutions. The most common size right now is 1024 X 768 pixels, width by height. This of course is not the actual size of the inner browser window, as the borders, head, status bar and other [...]

Alternative to sIFR: FLIR, an image-based replacement tool

sIFR is a tool that allows novelty and custom fonts to be used on web pages. It uses javascript and flash to take text (commonly headings), hide it, and replace it with a flash-based alternative. It’s pretty clever and works pretty damn well.

Programmable Matter: computerized robotized play-doh, aka Claytronics

Think of millions of tiny robots, each with their own computer processors, programs, and stuff like that, plus add in some LEDs. Now put a few million together. Now imagine that they can stick together like magnets. Now add in some logic, and think about what could be done. What could these things actually do?
