Finder: Stop asking if I want to change a file extension!

November 17th, 2008

This one’s a bit obvious, but it’s one of those that’s hidden and difficult to remember. I have my Finder set to always display file extensions. I’m a developer; I actually prefer to see my file extensions.

But whenever I go to change a filename within the Finder GUI, it always asks me ‘if I’m sure I want to change the extension’. I’m posting this here because I keep forgetting where it is, and I’m sure somebody else out there can’t find it either, as the setting is located in an over-intuitive spot.

Visit Finder > Preferences > Advanced and untick the box “Show warning before changing an extension”

Disable the warning from showing up when you change a file extension
