Take a look at MODx, a PHP App Framework, Ajax CMS, and SEO CMS

Alright, a NetTut convinced me to take a look at MODx, a sweet PHP/MySQL content management framework. It’s also an AJAX framework. It’s also a CMS. It sounds as if this framework may have found a nice balance for designers, developers, and editors.

So far, I’ve installed and populated a simple sample, within about 10 minutes. The templates are easy as hell, and the admin area is a breeze. I’m sure that editors will be able to actually use this; What a concept!

    Running through their tutorials… starting to get a bit annoyed. Tutorial asking me to make sure UserComments snippet is installed, though it didn’t ship with the core and it seems that the snippet doesn’t exist at all, anywhere.

    MODx is already starting to make me mad… that’s a bad sign.

    So it looks as though a snippet, Jot, has replaced UserComments. But I didn’t see any mention of this, and it would of been nice if the tutorials mentioned that.

    I predict that lots of those just trying their tutorials will give up on MODx.

    Steve,

    The documentation for MODx both on the site and on the public wiki will be replaced likely within the month. There is a new site and new documentation coming but your observations are correct people may be frustrated looking for non-existent snippets.

    Thanks for your thoughts. BTW have you joined the forums? Most questions are answered in less than an hour during the day.

    Cheers,

    Jay Gilmore

    Glad to hear that, Jay. I’ll be sure to keep up with the site, and once it’s updated, I’ll go through again with a clean slate!

    I’m looking forward to checking out ModX again!

    “I’m sure that editors will be able to actually use this;”

    I know from experience that this holds true. And some of the editors I worked with were really novices in terms of using web applications … a plus for modx. I also like the very clear distinction between frontend and backend, which is also found in the user management;
