Take a look at the Pods plugin for WordPress

Drupal provides some great functionality, but its learning curve is pretty steep. Most developers can grasp it pretty quickly, but the end administrators don’t have that luxury. And this can be a real problem.

More arguments of using WordPress as a CMS continue to abound, some claiming that it works wonderfully as a CMS and others claiming that it’ll always just be a blogging platform.

Whichever side of the road you want to walk on, you can’t argue that WordPress’ back end is really easy to use. And when you’re developing small sites for clients (especially those with limited budgets), ease of use and low cost are of utmost importance. And it’s apparent that web-unsavvy administrators easily catch on to using wordpress’ admin area.

Enter the Pods plugin. This plugin allows you to create content types in wordpress, similar to Drupal’s CCK (Content) module.

If you’ve used Drupal and are curious how WordPress can behave similarly (content types and views), then I highly recommend you take a look at the pods plugin. Many thanks to Matt and Scott for their hard work on this plugin!

Oh my god! This is exactly what I needed at 1 AM this morning! Thanks Steve!! (I’m putting together a wordpress site for a friend who owns a small land surveying company = almost no money.) I put in my first custom header yesterday, as well as messed around with a few other aspects of the theme layout. :) Kiddie stuff, I know. I nearly had changed a 3-column theme to 1-column when at the very end, I broke it beyond repair and had to start over with a different theme. :P I just wish there was a plugin to remove those basic blogging features from WordPress so that I don’t have to go unclick and bang around removing them from the sidebar, etc. I tried two “simple cms” plugins that promised to do such, but neither worked with any of my themes (that claimed to be widget ready). Any ideas? How do you quickly turn around wordpress so that it looks like a normal cms to the naked eye? Any quick tips? Thanks for the info Steve. Keep up the blogging. :)

It’s a great plugin, coming along nicely! The only issues with it so far is that it won’t yet handle slug control. But Scott informed me that they’re working with that.

There is another plugin that does something similar (and probably one or two more) to Pods, called MoreFields. It will allow you to hide blocks in the admin area.

Getting WordPress to work as a CMS is feasible, but you do have to jump through some hoops, and a bit of PHP knowledge can go a long way.

I could not uninstall the plugin as it says, you do not have access rights. How can i remove the files ?

Well, I haven’t tried this by any means, but I’d think that you could remove the plugin files and any of the database tables it created.

If you didn’t alter anything, then the database tables probably begin with “wp_pod” or maybe just “pod”.

If you still have trouble, I’d recommend checking out or posting to the support forum: http://pods.uproot.us/
