    Mac Project Window Sets

For years, I’ve been trying to find a good application that’ll let me open a set of windows and applications, specifically for projects that I develop. For example, say I have a project where I have two URLs open in tabs in a browser, a folder (project) opened in TextMate (text editor), a terminal window [...]

I expect to encounter an unexpected error

I’ve been running the same copy of Microsoft Office for years. Good old Mac Migration Assistant moves everything over nicely whenever I get a new machine. For years, as long as I can remember, every time I open MS Word, a popup dialog box tells me that “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load [...]

AT&T makes 3G twice as fast, but it’s not even available here

What great news! AT&T decided to double their 3G speed, putting it over 7 Mbps for 3G users. That’s cool, but we don’t even have 3G available where I live and work, in Western North Carolina. Thanks, AT&T.

It’s time for email clients to get smarter

Smart Folders aren’t very bright. Sorting by date or name doesn’t help either. Using another program (or collection of programs) to better organize email threads and collections is wasteful, time consuming, and requires too much manual effort for the workflow.

Finder: Stop asking if I want to change a file extension!

This one’s a bit obvious, but it’s one of those that’s hidden and difficult to remember. I have my Finder set to always display file extensions. I’m a developer; I actually prefer to see my file extensions.

Personal Information Management for Mac: Yojimbo, Together, DevonThink, and Evernote

UPDATE: I’m using Journler now… it’s really doing the job for me. Check it out if you haven’t done so. About a year ago, I started looking at and using some PIM (Personal Information Management) applications. These things are great in that you can add notes, web pages, clippings, images, PDFs, and all sorts of [...]

    Make Finder text clippings selectable

In Finder you can select a bit of text, then drag it to the desktop. This creates a text clipping (.textClipping file). But when you reopen the text clipping, you can’t select and copy the text from the text clipping. Generally I’ll take a quick screen grab of what I’m trying to save (using Command [...]

Google Adsense dashbaord widget for Apple/Mac

Here’s a nice one for ya. It’s an apple/mac dashboard widget that will check your Google Adsense earnings. Simply install the widget, enter your login criteria, and slam. You’re golden! I’ve been using this guy for a few months, and it works great! It actually pulls the data from Google’s API directly or from another [...]
