Came across a super-handy jQuery plugin/bundle for TextMate by Karl Swedberg. Thanks, Karl!

This bundle gives you some great tab-triggers to write jQuery much more quickly in TextMate!

When posting to my blog via TextMate’s blogging bundle, I’m getting a strange error. The post is successful via xml-rpc, but the error is a bit annoying, if not just a little worrisome.

It didn’t always do this. I’ve noticed it just in the last few days, but it could have been going on for a few weeks without me realizing it.

TextMate over Remote Drives :: Magnetk’s ExpanDrive

I’ve always noticed TextMate behaves a bit sluggishly when a project contains a good amount of remote file references. I’d much prefer to use TextMate, but end up resorting to the vim editor. I got nothing against vim, by any means, but when modifying many files for one project, it can become cumbersome.

I’ve tried using MacFusion, and it works pretty well. The reason I tried out MacFusion is so that I can open files in TextMate (using the mate command) right from the terminal. But again, TextMate still behaves very sluggishly.

I just noticed a post on the TextMate Blog about Magnetk’s ExpanDrive that claims to run much more smoothly than MacFusion and other options. I’m downloading a copy now, and I’ll be posting back with some comments and reviews on this software. I hope it works well. At a $29 intro price, it would be well worth the investment.

Let’s see how it goes!

My Web Development Environment

I often enjoy trying out new software to see if it will improve my efficiency and productivity.

Currently, I develop with some very powerful tools. This article will outline the purpose of each, as well as highlight some pros and cons of the software I use for web development.

I use an Apple iMac (Intel) 24” glossy, 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo. At a resolution of 1920 x 1200 px, I can have multiple windows open and usable. I also use a secondary Gateway 17” LCD display for even more space. This space is usually occupied by chat windows and FTP GUIs.

For text editing, I use TextMate. TextMate is by far my favorite application of all time. Its simplicity is priceless, and its robustness never ceases to amaze me. Every day I’m finding new stuff with TextMate that saves me hours and hours of time. Plus it’s just plain cool.

The native Terminal application for Mac OS X is great, too. Generally I’ll use this for SSH work and quick FTP transfers. I’m probably using the terminal for at least a few hours in a normal day. I highly recommend you check out the color scheme IR_Black, by InfiniteRed. There’s some instructions at the above link.

I use Panic’s Transmit for FTP transfers. By far Transmit is one of the favorites of all FTP-using Mac people.

In addition to the above development tools, I do dabble in the following applications:

Control Apple G :: Textmate create a new folder doesn’t work

In TextMate, you can create new files by pressing Shift Apple N. You’re supposed to be able to create a new folder by pressing Control Apple G, but it straight up doesn’t work. The same happens to my friend running essentially the same system.

Are we the only ones this happens to? What’s the deal, man?

TextMate mate error: An uncaught exception was raised

So, I’ve been using this sweet mouse for a few months, the Logitech MX Revolution. And I’ve been using TextMate for at least a year or two. Well, today, I was in my terminal window, and I wanted to open a few files in TextMate. So I typed my usual command:

steve$ mate app/views/ public/

Usually TextMate would open up real nicely, with the two folders app/view and public ready to go in a TextMate project. But no. Instead I got this lovely, sensical message:

Beautiful. That makes perfect sense.

After a bit of research at this thread, it appears that my Logitech Mouse’s software, the Logitech Control Center (v 2.4 at this time), interferes somehow with mate. LCCDaemon, I believe it’s called, is the culprit.

The Fix

Null. There is no fix. Either a) remove LCC, or b) don’t use mate. I still haven’t decided on this one… I use both like crazy. If anyone else has found a fix or an acceptable workaround, please please please let me know.
